Major Theme The major theme of this book is that you should do anything to ensure your survival. They did anything and everything they could do to survive under those harsh conditions. They have to risk and sacrifice everything even their lives, everything they do is risking it. They have to wait for food, when Elli, Miep and Kraler bring them food and money and clothes. Without them they would have to survive with little clothes and no food, they would eventually grow out of their clothes and run out of food. They have to survive with what they have until furthermore.
Minor Theme The minor theme of the book is loneliness of adolescence. Mostly when people have a diary they struggle with things in life that are bad and that no one else would understand. This is just how Anne feels. She is not comfortable with espessing her feelings about this whole crazy situation with the Nazis or even boy problems with Peter. I don't think her mom and sister care about her problems and this is what is also keeping her down. She doesn't understand why this is happening and she need someone to help her. This quote from the book says " The young are lonelier than the old." I don't know where this quote is located in the book but I've heard it from previous sayings. But this backs my theme up. (pg.
